Walking the plank?

Piracy is much in the news these days, which brings to mind classic tales of Blackbeard, memories of reading “Treasure Island,” and watching “Peter Pan.” Seems like the pirates were always making prisoners walk the plank, usually by threatening them with vicious swords.

Which makes you wonder why this guy is doing it on purpose.

What's wrong with this picture?

At first glance this scene looks quite normal. A Mini Excavator which has finished its days work, ready to be picked up by the hiring company with its buckets and fuel. Let's look closer at the fuel container: The fuel is being kept in a completely unmarked plastic drum, and what makes it worse is that this type of container is typically used for storing water.

We hope a fire doesn't break out. A panicked onlooker may try to extinguish the fire with what looks like water. . .

Happy St Patrick's Day! What is the meaning of the color green?

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century. He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, in hopes of making a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention.

Need more height???

Over the years, we have published many examples of work on roofs without perimeter protection, misused elevating work platforms and misused forklift trucks. But when you get all three happening in the one photograph, you know you’ve hit the jackpot!

It hardly seems possible that anyone could come up with a more dangerous or more ridiculous way of doing roof work than this Absolute Shocker from Indiana, USA.

Safety Shocker Photo!

The fact that the start button has been jammed in the “ON” position with the use of a piece of wire says to us that something has gone wrong with either the button or the wiring.

One can only assume that if the operator pushes the emergency stop button, without removing the piece of wire first, when the emergency stop button is reset, this piece of equipment will automatically restart.

Safety controls are on machinery for a reason and must not be circumvented. If a control is not working properly, the plant must be removed from service until it is repaired.
