Guatemala City Sinkhole - Amazing pictures!

The appearance of the massive sinkhole in Guatemala City occurred in May 2010, and is thought to have been triggered by tropical storm Agatha, a violent tempest that struck Central America.

Sinkholes can form when water-saturated soil and other particles become too heavy and cause the roofs of existing voids in the soil to collapse. Another way sinkholes can form is if water enlarges a natural fracture in a limestone bedrock layer. As the crack gets bigger, the topsoil gently slumps and develops into a sinkhole.

Bobcat truck gets stuck in building

A spectacular accident happened at a condo renovation project in downtown Montreal.

It happened while a small bobcat loader was being lowered from a 10 story building at Bleury and Mayor streets. As the crane was bringing down the lift truck to the seventh floor, it suffered some sort of mechanical failure and rolled off the crane platform and got wedged in an open window frame on the eighth floor.

Traffic was detoured for several hours while the operator was rescued and brought safely to solid ground, while the bobcat was eventually unhitched from the wall.

No one was injured.

Walking the Plank?

Piracy is much in the news these days, which brings to mind classic tales of Blackbeard, memories of reading “Treasure Island,” and watching “Peter Pan.” Seems like the pirates were always making prisoners walk the plank, usually by threatening them with vicious swords.

Which makes you wonder why this guy is doing it on purpose.
