Guest Blog Post: Electrical Safety Pointers

 
 
• Ensure that equipment is powered down and lock out or tag out any systems that are to be worked on.
• Ensure that employees know the location of emergency stops and power sources.
• Check regularly that there is no exposed or frayed wiring on electrical cords.
• Use well shrouded electrical plugs that are grounded (3-prong).
• Dissipate electrical energy prior to commencing work. Always verify using test equipment.
• Always wear hazard classification appropriate electrical PPE.
• Follow arc flash mitigating strategies when commencing work within an risk situation.
• Ensure all grounding devices are at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines.
• Ensure that workplace signage, labelling and colour-coding notices are visible and legible.
• Keep all sources of water away from electricity and all electrical appliances.
• Consult with the local electrical company to verify underground power line locations.
